Empowering Black Daughters on the Caregiving Journey

Building a Community of Strength and Support

A community for Black daughters caring for their parents.

As Black women we face a myriad of trials as caregivers. Caring for others while attempting to manage careers, finances, personal well-being, in addition to cultural expectations is demanding. By providing a platform to support Black daughter caregivers, the narrative of arduousness is shifted, health is improved, and voice of the marginalized Black daughter caregiver is amplified. The Binti Circle represents a collective of Black daughterhood and sisterhood and intends to create a community of holistically well Black daughter caregivers, mind, body and spirit.

We take pride in our research

Collaborating with academic partners enables the Binti Circle to participate in grant-funded research initiatives and collect vital data. This data, in turn, serves as the foundation for developing evidence-based interventions and strategies aimed at providing essential support to Black daughter caregivers.

Learn about our Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) projects:

  • This study focused on examining the use of a culturally tailored yoga/journaling workshop to decrease the caregiving burden and stress of Black daughter caregivers.

  • This study aims to explore if storytelling can provide Black daughter caregivers with a therapeutic holistic approach to self-care, emotional well-being, and reduction of caregiving intensity and stress.

  • This study will evaluate the present curriculum of the Binti Circle and identify the specific challenges, stressors, and resource gaps experienced by Black daughter caregivers. The overall impact of this project will be to develop the core components of a culturally tailored curriculum that can address the health disparities faced by Black daughter caregivers.
